I have heard the question asked, "would Jesus be a Christian if he were alive today?"
It is an interesting thought to ponder, don't ya think!!? Amusingly some people will read the question and respond with, "of Course!!" but further investigation into the life and times of Jesus may illuminate more depth.
First and foremost, Jesus had followers, but Jesus wasn't approved of by the state! Now keep this in mind and translate it to today:
the State in America is comprised of approximately 76% self-identifying Christian citizens; this is obviously the vast majority. Many politicians called their social political beliefs Christian.
in Jesus' time he was killed for insighting uprising against the established order, the Roman state.
He was insighting rebellion against the current order, by being a healer and a teacher of metaphysical insight. Jesus was killed at 33. Can you imagine, a young hippie figure talking against the ruling order of the state and acting as a travelling healer? Sounds, well, like a lot of 'non-Christians' in our day.
It is possible to discover that the manifestation of Christianity as it exists today may not be what Jesus was talking about.
just some words for thought.
